What does the “Quoicoubaka” meme mean?

The word means nothing on its own. It is a made-up burst of rage that works like a sound effect played at full volume. The humour comes from how tiny the cause is, an ice cream that will not set, compared with a reaction fit for a tragedy. People use it to show fake exasperation after a kitchen disaster, a lost match or a laggy phone. Its sound, close to the “quoicoubeh” family of French jokes, makes it easy to remember.

Where does the “Quoicoubaka” meme come from?

Joyca, real name Jordan Rondelli, was born on 7 August 1995 in Grenoble and is a French web video maker and musician. He has posted on YouTube since 2016, starting with parodies and remixes before moving into entertainment videos. One of his series, “Je tente des glaces insolites” (“I try unusual ice creams”), has him churn odd flavours suggested by viewers: Big Mac, kebab, durian or insects, depending on the episode. The scream comes from those ice cream videos, at the moment the recipe slips out of his control. The short clip then circulated endlessly as a sound and in edits.
