In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Sartek le dégradé Mohamed” is a rare card of the Memes FR pack, number 667 of the collection, and the 208th best-known meme of its 638 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Sartek le dégradé Mohamed” meme mean?
Sartek — also spelled bsahtek, psahtek or psartek — comes from the Arabic bi-sahtek, “to your health”, and is a way of congratulating someone. Attached to le dégradé, the French word for a fade haircut, it praises a trip to the barber. In practice the meaning drifted: the line now salutes any small win, and just as often mocks a haircut that went wrong. The irony is the point, and the tone decides which one you mean.
Where does the “Sartek le dégradé Mohamed” meme come from?
The line comes from a video posted on 3 November 2022 by the TikTok account @monsuperpapa. A man walks out of the barbershop, films his fade on a selfie camera in the street and thanks the barber by his first name. The clip passed five million views and 460,000 likes. The account turned it into a running series, swapping the barber’s name each time — Gaëtan, Thierry, Rouya — and thousands of creators copied the format, up to French YouTubers such as Tibo InShape. By December 2022 the phrase had left the app and was being quoted on the jeuxvideo.com forums. The word itself is far older: French dictionaries have recorded it in mainland French since the late 2000s.
