Where does the “SKRILLEX TRIBUTE YTPMV” meme come from?
The trend officially began on December 9, 2011, when user McMaNGOS uploaded a video to YouTube.[1][5] It remixed "Kill EVERYBODY" from the EP *Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites*, released October 22, 2010.[1][12] The creator layered the track over clips from *Community* and *Team Fortress 2*.[1] The word "Tribute" is ironic; creators often referenced Skrillex’s fictional death rather than paying respects.[1] Over 100 videos appeared within the first month alone.[1] By February 2012, a dedicated response page listed 163 entries.[1] Common visual sources included *My Little Pony*, *SpongeBob SquarePants*, and references like PINGAS.[1] Specific scenes from *Community* remain unidentified in some archives.[1]
