What does the “Steve charo” meme mean?
People reach for Steve charo when a moment calls for a goofy, joyful victory dance. The blocky Minecraft hero doing a move that French football fans know by heart is what makes it funny. It works as a reaction to a goal, a win or good news, and as a wink to anyone who recognizes the choreography. It speaks mostly to gamers, TikTok users and football fans.
Where does the “Steve charo” meme come from?
It starts with Niska’s Freestyle PSG video, where the rapper sings “Matuidi charo”. According to Wikipedia, “charo” is short for “charognard” (scavenger) and describes someone who hustles and succeeds on their own. Blaise Matuidi liked the tribute and celebrated his goals with the video’s choreography; GQ covered that celebration in August 2015. Years later the dance spread on TikTok: the card shows Steve, the Minecraft character, performing it with Tsuku, described as a creator on the platform. The edit connects three worlds: rap, football and video games.
