Where does the “Stop Das Gay” meme come from?
The meme originated on June 5, 2011, on Tumblr. User tomatoneedles posted an image depicting the Kiss of Judas, showing Judas Iscariot kissing Jesus to betray him. This biblical scene was repurposed to symbolize awkward male intimacy. The concept gained traction via an audio video uploaded to YouTube on October 30, 2011, by Punkiit, titled stop Judas that’s gay. This track dramatized the internal captions associated with the original image, reinforcing the idea of monologues missing the irony entirely.
