What does the “EEEAAAOOO” meme mean?
You post it when there is nothing to say and the silence has to be filled: an answer to an incomprehensible message, the sound bed of an edit with no logic, punctuation for a conversation falling apart. The yell means nothing, and that is the point: it occupies space. It also works as a marker of mental exhaustion, with the syllable standing in for a thought. The short format and endless loop make it something you restart rather than watch.
Where does the “EEEAAAOOO” meme come from?
The video the card cites is an animation uploaded to YouTube, built around a cat drawn in the style of bongo cat, the drumming-cat meme that appeared in 2018. The soundtrack uses “sd_bbb” by the musician Patricia Taxxon, a track whose synthetic voice supplies the famous “EEEAAAOOO”. The animation itself is the work of an online author rather than an excerpt from a film or a show: it is meme-native from the start. It was then recirculated through reposts, remixes and audio versions on SoundCloud, which detached the yell from the animation. Research for this page could not pin down the exact upload date, so only the year is recorded.
- 2018The bongo cat meme appears; the animation borrows its style.
- 2019The EEEAAAOOO animation circulates and becomes background noise for edits.
