What does the “Flop énorme dans ONDAR” meme mean?
The word “flop” says it all: the audience is silent, the performer keeps pushing, the discomfort grows. The meme captures that TV awkwardness, the urge to hide behind the sofa while watching. Use it to comment on a failed joke, a presentation going wrong, a speech that will not end, or an attempt at humour that empties the room. It also works as a nostalgic wink to a show many people watched after school.
Where does the “Flop énorme dans ONDAR” meme come from?
ONDAR is the nickname of On n’demande qu’à en rire, a France 2 show launched on 6 September 2010 and originally hosted by Laurent Ruquier. Amateur and professional comedians performed a sketch in front of a four-member jury and the studio audience, who scored them out of 20. A sketch could be stopped after two buzzes from the jury. This format, where every performance happens live, produced very awkward moments. This one shows an unfunny comedian turning on the room, and it became one of the show’s most-shared clips, reused in many cringe compilations. The programme ended for good on 4 July 2014.
