In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Mon lapin” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 2818 of the collection, and the 753rd best-known meme of its 3502 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Mon lapin” meme mean?
“Mon lapin” is an affectionate nickname, the kind kept for private moments. In the meme it surfaces in public, in front of a television camera, which gives it a quirky charm. The feeling is twofold: tenderness at the openly shown love, and laughter at how staged it looks. Use it to tease a couple showering each other with cute words, to answer an overly sugary message, or to recall early-2010s French reality TV with a bit of nostalgia.
Where does the “Mon lapin” meme come from?
The meme comes from Tellement vrai, a French magazine show broadcast on NRJ 12. Launched on 18 September 2008, it presents reports on life stories, grouped by theme in each episode. Matthieu Delormeau hosted it from 2008 to 2015, and the narration is by Stéphane Cascino. Within that world of portraits, Jean-François and Grégory form one of the most iconic couples of the programme, and the phrase “mon lapin” stayed attached to their appearance. Cut into clips, it circulated on YouTube and social media as an example of reality-TV scenes where tenderness turns into comedy.
