What does the “Le train de minerais de fer” meme mean?
The meme sets the scene for a dreadful journey you chose. People bring it out for an overnight coach, a missed connection, a hike that ends in the rain, and the comparison always flatters whoever uses it, because it reminds everyone that worse exists. It also carries the idea that discomfort makes the story, since nobody recounts a comfortable trip. The images speak for themselves, faces black with dust on an open wagon, which is why they travel without a caption.
Where does the “Le train de minerais de fer” meme come from?
Mauritania’s iron ore train hauls ore across the desert and lets passengers ride in its open wagons, which has made it a sought-after leg for travellers online. The clip reused here is a reel published on Instagram, in which the three French streamers document their crossing: more than fifteen hours lying on the ore, unsheltered, faces and clothes covered in dust. No reliable public date is attached to that post, which is why the card leaves the year empty rather than guessing it. What made the footage travel is not the feat but the contrast: creators used to the comfort of live streaming, lying on a pile of iron.
