In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Mais achète !” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 872 of the collection, and the 602nd best-known meme of its 869 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Mais achète !” meme mean?
The comedy is in the insistence: the more the customer backs away, the further the salesman leans in, until the sales pitch disappears behind sheer pressure. Online, the phrase goes with a recommendation you happily impose, whether it is an object, a game or a restaurant. It has also become a ready reply to anyone who has been talking for too long about a purchase they never make.
Where does the “Mais achète !” meme come from?
The excerpt has circulated on YouTube since 3 March 2012, in a video titled "François l'embrouille - Mais viens ! Mais achète là !!!" uploaded by a repost account and viewed roughly 270,000 times. François l'Embrouille is the prankster character created by Belgian actor François Damiens, whose hidden cameras rest on a counterpart who never lets go; the repost credits no original broadcast. The available sources do not say which show or season the sequence comes from: all that can be established is that the line has been reposted since at least 2012, and that another failed-sale prank circulates in the same family.
