In 2015, the YouTube channel of the newspaper Folha de Londrina published a report by journalist Luciane Miyazaki about an exhibit called “Amigos de Deus,” set up in a parish in Rolândia, Paraná. The exhibit featured twenty beeswax statues molded over store mannequins, sculpted by artist and businessman Arlindo Armacollo, depicting celebrities such as Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Ayrton Senna and Elvis Presley. The video barely registered at the time. It only resurfaced on January 6, 2021, after user @matrodriguesadv shared a clip on Twitter calling it “the best video of 2021,” sparking a wave of memes that quickly spread across Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, and was even covered by The Guardian.
