Where does the “ET Bilu: Seek Knowledge” meme come from?
On October 10, 2010, the Record TV show Domingo Espetacular aired footage of a supposed extraterrestrial, dubbed ET Bilu, that appeared on a farm in Corguinho, Mato Grosso do Sul, with ufologist Urandir Fernandes de Oliveira acting as the go-between. In the recording, the creature, before vanishing into the vegetation, leaves the news crew with the line “apenas busquem conhecimento” (just seek knowledge). The story made national headlines and the line quickly turned into a meme, even getting parodied on the comedy show Custe o Que Custar, on Rede Bandeirantes. Over time the hoax fell apart, and Urandir, who already ran the Projeto Portal community, was identified as the one behind it.
