In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Stube sitze!” is a rare card of the German Memes pack, number 277 of the collection, and the 39th best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Stube sitze!” meme mean?
“Stube” is the main living space of a house. Shouting “Stube sitze!” tells someone to go sit down and keep quiet, like an exasperated parent. The meme calms an overexcited kid, a restless friend or a coworker who comments on everything. The dialect makes the order both bossy and very homely, hence the comedy: a furious shout for a couch-level instruction.
Where does the “Stube sitze!” meme come from?
The meme travels through a YouTube video simply titled “Stube sitze!”. It belongs to the short clips Swiss German speakers pass around as one-liners, and it shows up in suggestions around the “SWISSMEME” series, which gathers cult moments of the Swiss web. Who is on screen and when it was filmed is not stated on those pages. The appeal lies in the phrase itself: three words, a tone that allows no argument, and a room of the house as imaginary stage.
