What does the “Angst und Geld hani kei” meme mean?
The line works like a shrug: with no fear and no money, what is there to dread? People say it before taking a gamble, ordering without checking the price, or brushing off a worry with panache. It blends bravado and self-mockery, since the lack of money is confessed in the same breath as the courage.
Where does the “Angst und Geld hani kei” meme come from?
The sentence is written in Swiss German, the umbrella term for the Alemannic dialects spoken across German-speaking Switzerland by all social classes. “Hani” is the contracted local form of “ich habe ni…” and “kei” means “none”, which gives an “I have neither fear nor money” that sounds distinctly of the region. The author and date of the first circulation are not widely published; the line travels as a quote and a caption, mostly for its rhythm and accent.
