Where does the “Well Done, Giovanna” meme come from?
The line comes from an Italian TV ad for Fernovus, Saratoga's gel-varnish for repainting metal gates, whose best-known version is dated 2005. In the spot, Giovanna brushes the product onto a gate while a man exclaims 'Brava Giovanna, brava' in a knowing, suggestive tone that blurs admiration for her DIY skills with a flirtier undertone. The ad was popular enough that Saratoga produced a follow-up, 'Brava Giovanna, il sequel', released in 2011, keeping the joke alive in Italian advertising culture.
