Where does the “Morandi Sweeps Up” meme come from?
On 7 February 2023, Blanco performed live during the first night of the 73rd Sanremo Festival, co-hosted by Amadeus and Gianni Morandi; frustrated by an in-ear monitor issue that made performing his new song difficult, he destroyed the rose arrangements set up on stage, a moment booed by the audience and widely covered by Italian press. Clips aired by Rai then showed Gianni Morandi walking on stage with a broom to clear away the scattered flowers, footage that Italian news channels and social media replayed repeatedly.
