Where does the “Everyone Waits for Topo Gigio” meme come from?
Lucio Corsi competed in the 75th Sanremo Festival in February 2025 with “Volevo essere un duro”. On the fourth evening, 14 February, dedicated to covers, he sang Domenico Modugno’s “Nel blu, dipinto di blu” with Topo Gigio, the puppet created in 1959 by Maria Perego, who thus became the first non-human character to take part as a competing singer. The duet had been announced in late January, so the audience waited for that moment among the big names of the evening. The pair finished second in the cover ranking, behind Giorgia and Annalisa. Corsi ended second overall behind Olly.
