Where does the “A Chicken!” meme come from?
Born in 1955 in Woking, England, Richard Benson became a cult figure in Italian music and television from the 1970s onward, partly thanks to concerts where the audience developed a habit of throwing all sorts of objects onstage at him. During one of those shows, a chicken thrown by a spectator landed onstage; Benson grabbed it and improvised his now-legendary line, proposing to "sacrifice this chicken to Satan in the valley of evil." The filmed clip has circulated as a cult audio sample well after his death in May 2022.
