In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Eti kadry porazhayut” is a common card of the Russian Memes pack, number 89 of the collection, and the 132nd best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Eti kadry porazhayut” meme mean?
The phrase imitates the dramatic tone of videos announcing exceptional or frightening content, only to let the tension collapse when the follow-up turns out completely unremarkable. People caption a very ordinary image or video with it, precisely to highlight how little shock value it actually has. The humor comes from this deliberate contrast between the grandiose announcement and the flat reality that follows immediately. It works as a wink at all those online video titles promising a lot while delivering very little.
Where does the “Eti kadry porazhayut” meme come from?
2010s Runet saw many videos and articles with exaggeratedly dramatic titles, announcing “shocking” images or content that “will surprise you”, a clickbait technique widespread on video platforms and sensationalist news sites. “Eti kadry porajaiout” borrows that register to turn it into an ironic catchphrase, used to caption content that obviously does not live up to the title's promise. The card dates the meme to 2015, a period when this kind of clickbait title circulated heavily on the Runet, and when its mocking, repurposed use as a caption for ordinary images became common.
How to use the “Eti kadry porazhayut” meme
- Captioning a photo of a sleeping cat with it, to play on the gap with the dramatic announcement.
