What does the “Aksioma Eskobara” meme mean?
It is waved when two camps argue over nothing or a choice is not really one: two disappointing series, two ruined dishes, two candidates nobody cares about. In polls, a third box labelled “Escobar” is sometimes added to show a neutral position. The meme ends the debate by recalling that neither option deserves the energy spent on it.
Where does the “Aksioma Eskobara” meme come from?
The line was reportedly spoken on 16 January 1999 (other accounts say 1994) in Yenakiieve, during an interview of Denis “Zhora Escobar” Shvan, singer of the grindcore band Bredor, by a Ukrainian journalist. Asked which of two music festivals he liked better, he answered that both were as bad as each other, with a curse. The video went online in 2007, then got a second wind when the web show +100500 aired it on 4 April 2011. A friend of the musician later said he now lives in Germany.
