In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Vzhukh” is an epic card of the Russian Memes pack, number 121 of the collection, and the 13th best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Vzhukh” meme mean?
The meme marks a sudden transformation, as if solved by magic, for better or worse. People use it to comment on an unlikely before/after, a problem fixed without clear explanation, or a plot twist they would rather credit to a spell than to real effort. The “vzhukh” sound effect works like a playful incantation: it casts the cat as an accidental wizard, able to grant a wish instantly or just as easily cause a small unexpected disaster, depending on the caption.
Where does the “Vzhukh” meme come from?
The edited photo appeared on the Russian internet in 2016: a cat already photographed wearing a party hat with its paws together was retouched to hold a magic wand, like an amateur sorcerer. The image spread across Russian-language social networks (VKontakte, image boards) paired with the onomatopoeia “вжух”, imitating the swish of a wand swing. The edit shows no real action by the cat; the caption each user adds invents the spell and its effect. Because the format fits any before/after, the cat in the party hat became a recurring face of the meme for years on Russian-speaking platforms, later picked up by translated meme accounts outside Russia.
- 2016The edited wizard-cat photo circulates on the Runet.
