What does the “Skuf” meme mean?
The word describes, often with a mix of self-deprecation and mockery, a resigned male archetype: unkempt, jaded about anything new, settled into an ambitionless routine. Memes deliberately exaggerate this portrait, with typical images showing this man in sweatpants or sloppy clothes, staring blankly at a screen. The term gets used both to mock others and to ironically self-identify with this archetype.
Where does the “Skuf” meme come from?
The word “skuf” emerged in Russian online slang and spread widely through memes starting in 2022, describing this tired, change-averse male type. The card tags it as Runet format for the year 2022; beyond this viral spread through Russian internet slang, no single source or specific video could be confirmed as the exact starting point despite searching. What made it popular is how easily many Russian-speaking internet users recognized themselves in it, turning mockery into a shared, openly embraced form of self-identification.
