What does the “Legushka” meme mean?
People use “Legouchka” to describe this kind of small, unexpected visual surprise placed exactly where nobody expects it, usually right at the very end of a video. It is a deliberately ridiculous jumpscare, more funny than scary, that became a reference point for the genre on the Runet.
Where does the “Legushka” meme come from?
The meme appeared in 2016, started by a VK (the Russian social network) community that pasted a cat image onto a frog to create a surprise appearance dropped at the end of videos. The card dates it to 2016 and tags it as a Runet format; no specific channel or video could be confirmed as the exact origin beyond that. The name “Legouchka” itself reuses the Russian word for “frog”, deliberately misspelled to heighten the image's absurdity. The trick spread as a recurring comic device, becoming a classic example of the Runet's silliest jumpscare.
- 2016The cat-frog photo edit named Legouchka appears in VK groups.
