What does the “Podolsky intsident” meme mean?
The device relies on a false collective memory: people mention the Podolsk incident gravely, as if everyone knew the story. Everybody understands nothing sits behind it, which is exactly why it is funny. The meme parodies commemorations, vague nostalgia and urban legends. Any invented detail can be slipped in, and the feigned credulity of the thread is the charm. The tone is deadpan, in keeping with the absurd humour of the Russian internet.
Where does the “Podolsky intsident” meme come from?
Podolsk is a town in the Moscow region. The meme took shape on the Russian internet in 2021: posts refer to a precise “incident” that nobody lived through and everyone tells a version of. The group momentum fed the joke, each participant embroidering on the phantom event. No real fact lies behind the story, which is precisely what turned it into a shared playground.
