In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Orekhus” is a rare card of the Russian Memes pack, number 266 of the collection, and the 40th best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Orekhus” meme mean?
Orekhus started as one small drawing among many, yet acquired a personality: serious, deadpan, always ready with a dry remark. It is posted as the avatar of a firm opinion, to react to an absurd situation, or to stand in for the friend who says what they think without detour. The walnut has its own vocabulary and habits, which gives it the depth of a sitcom character. The humour works through the contrast between a tiny face and categorical lines.
Where does the “Orekhus” meme come from?
The sticker comes from the Fruits and Vegetables pack offered on VK, the Russian social network. Around 2015, the walnut was picked up by groups and communities of the Russian internet, which assigned it a name (Orekhus), signature phrases and increasingly offbeat staging. This move from plain sticker to mascot is typical of the Russian internet: a graphic detail becomes a character that everyone voices in their own way.
- 2015The walnut from the VK sticker pack becomes a character reused by Russian internet groups.
