What does the “Son Goku VS Saitama” meme mean?
The meme is less about either character than about the kind of argument that cannot be settled. Quoting it flags a debate where both sides have rules of their own and no referee: power scaling, best album, strongest language feature. It is used affectionately, as a password between fans, and sarcastically, to end a thread that has been going for two hundred replies.
Where does the “Son Goku VS Saitama” meme come from?
The pairing is a natural one: Goku is the measuring stick of shōnen power, and Saitama is a joke built against that stick — his whole character is that strength stopped being interesting. Since One Punch Man's anime adaptation reached a worldwide audience in 2015, the match has lived in fan work rather than in either series. The best known piece today is a fan animation posted in January 2024 by Etoilec1 Animations, which has passed 11 million views; the image on this card comes from the merchandising artwork the player submitted, whose artist is not credited on the file.
