The meme celebrates the silliness of video game characters singing hit songs in their own voices, chopped and glued back together note by note. People mention it to share a remix that makes them smile, to show a classic example of audio mashup, or to recall the early days of Team Fortress 2 fan edits on YouTube.
Where does the “TF2 voice remixes” meme come from?
The idea was discussed on the TF2 Fort forums as early as October 23, 2007. In early 2008, what became known as the “Bonk Song” appeared on YouTube, with Scout’s voice laid over the NFL on FOX theme. That first video was reportedly taken down after a copyright complaint, yet it inspired hundreds of similar remixes.
