In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Meme Run” is a rare card of the Memes World series 75, number 22480 of the collection, and the 64th best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Meme Run” meme mean?
Meme Run became shorthand for an awkward, opportunistic grab at internet culture. The name is used for anything that stacks well-known references without understanding them, so the humour feels stale on arrival. People bring it up to tease a brand trying too hard to sound online, a cash-in product, or a piece of content stuffed with winks. It also doubles as a reminder that a famous meme image can still have an owner who cares.
Where does the “Meme Run” meme come from?
Ninja Pig Studios made the game. According to the developers, Jordan, then 20, and his 14-year-old brother Garrett built it in their spare time, inspired by the r/montageparodies community. It was announced in September 2014 through the studio’s Miiverse account with a trailer, which Nintendo Life and Kotaku Australia covered the next day. Meme Run landed on the Wii U eShop on December 18, 2014, priced at five dollars. It packs in swag, rage comics, 360 no-scope, Illuminati jokes, Lenny Face and airhorn remixes. Reviewers were harsh, yet it reached fifth place on the eShop sales chart by the end of December. On March 3, 2015, players noticed it had vanished. Trollface creator Carlos Ramirez then said he had filed a takedown request over his copyrighted drawing, which was central to the game.
