What does the “This Is a Flammenwerfer, It Werfs Flammen” meme mean?
The humor relies on the apparent transparency of words. The author treats 'werfs' as an English verb derived from 'throw', whereas in correct German, it is 'wirft'. This creates an absurd comedic effect, highlighting how some technical or military terms seem obvious in one language without being literally translatable. It is often used to mock the perceived rigidity of the German language by English speakers.
Where does the “This Is a Flammenwerfer, It Werfs Flammen” meme come from?

The superimposed text repeats this idea of abusive literal translation. A new wave of popularity occurred on December 3, 2009, linked to a discussion about the anime Strike Witches in the /a/ board.
