In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Oskour” is an epic card of the Permanent Edition French Twitch Memes Season 1, number 38 of the collection, and the 5th best-known meme of its 78 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Oskour” meme mean?
According to Wiktionary, the interjection marks strong irony without any urgent plea for help. People type it for a bad surprise or a tiny catastrophe: a spoiler, a death in a game, a delay or a storm. The mangled spelling makes the shout funnier and more casual. On Twitch it appears as a sound or GIF accompanying a streamer’s comic despair, with the idea that nobody is really coming to rescue them.
Where does the “Oskour” meme come from?
The word transcribes a cry of distress the way it is pronounced: a phonetic spelling of “au secours.” Wiktionary cites a November 2019 post that uses it to comment on hail and snow in Paris, without giving a precise date of first appearance. On Twitch, streamer MisterMV has used it as a recurring shout since 2019, according to the card’s description. The most common GIF, showing a man in headphones covering his eyes in front of a screen reading “oskour,” was uploaded to Tenor on June 12, 2021.
