Where does the “"Shogun tonight"” meme come from?
The scene takes place in 2022 during the play-ins of the Worlds, the League of Legends world championship. A player named Shogun scores a pentakill, meaning one player takes down all five opponents, and the French-speaking cast of the OTP channel erupts, shouting the line that names the moment. The chat picked up the phrase immediately in capital letters with dancing emotes, and Trayton added a dance to the shout. Montages by the OTP channel, including a “Best Of OTP” devoted to this passage, fixed the memory of that evening and made “Shogun tonight” a shared reference for French-speaking esports fans.
