Where does the “Pabllo Has Gone Too Far” meme come from?
The chain message was written by Gilmar Lopes, a systems analyst and founder of the Brazilian fact-checking site E-farsas, who wanted to show, around 2017, how a fake news story is born and multiplies online. The original text claimed singer Pabllo Vittar was tied to Brazil's Workers' Party (PT) in a plot against public morals, and Lopes spread it on Twitter; from there it jumped to Facebook and WhatsApp, picking up ever more exaggerated variations. Rumors later claimed she would appear on a 200-real banknote. Internet users kept inventing wilder follow-ups, all built on the same line: “this time, Pabllo went too far.”
