Where does the “Buongiollo” meme come from?
Luca Giurato hosted Unomattina on Rai starting in 1994, alongside colleagues such as Livia Azzariti, Paola Saluzzi, and Antonella Clerici, and became known for a string of on-air slips remembered fondly by Italian audiences, the most famous of which remains buongiollo, a comic mangling of buongiorno. Fan pages compiled these moments for years, and when Giurato died on 11 September 2024 at age 84, tributes from Rai leadership and colleagues like Simona Ventura recalled this now-iconic line.
