Rita De Crescenzo, born in 1979 in the Pallonetto di Santa Lucia district of Naples, became known in 2020 through a TikTok video in which she answers an online quarrel. A line from that video inspired her first song, “Ma te vulisse fà ’na gara ’e ballo?”, released in 2021 with a video that passed seven million views on YouTube. She also sings at private parties. The easy-to-remember, easy-to-imitate refrain then moved into remixes and parodies.
