In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Pour de vrai ?” is an epic card of the Permanent Edition French Twitch Memes Season 1, number 47 of the collection, and the 20th best-known meme of its 78 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Pour de vrai ?” meme mean?
The meme plays on three beats: surprise (“Swear?”), blunt doubt (“You’re lying”) and confirmation (“Really?”), capped by an over-the-top “Thanks, I swear”. It fits any news that seems too good to be true: a refund, a win, an invitation. It also conveys the irony of someone pretending not to believe what they are told. The choppy rhythm and the rising emotion make the line easy to imitate out loud or in a chat.
Where does the “Pour de vrai ?” meme come from?
The sequence reads like a French-language stream clip: a chain reaction in which someone asks whether it is true, accuses the other person of lying, then thanks them with emphasis. The mix of everyday spoken expressions, “jure” and “wallah”, is typical of French internet slang. Cut into a clip, the scene then circulates as a short video and as a text reaction. The line works because of its rhythm and its apparent sincerity: everyone recognizes a moment when good news was hard to believe.
