In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “GentleMentleMen” is a rare card of the Memes World series 75, number 22472 of the collection, and the 57th best-known meme of its 300 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “GentleMentleMen” meme mean?
There is no message here, only rhythm and absurdity. A single polite word is looped, stretched and sliced until it becomes a driving beat over fast Japanese rhythm-game music. The meme stands for committed nonsense and the joy of taking a joke far past its natural end. People share it to get a laugh, to praise an especially chaotic edit, or to signal that a conversation is about to get wonderfully silly.
Where does the “GentleMentleMen” meme come from?
It starts with the “Gentlemen” line spoken by the Spy in Team Fortress 2. YouTube user Maplemaniac cut the line up and synced it to “AGEHA,” a track by Ryu from the beatmania IIDX 11: RED soundtrack. The first upload dates to around September 2009, after which the account was suspended. The creator came back under a new account and reposted the video on October 10, 2009, with different audio, and the original-audio version later resurfaced. The format caught on with YouTube Poop makers. On October 3, 2009, Slixor blended it with SpongeBob SquarePants clips, and the next day IShotWebTV crossed it with the “IT’S OVER 9000” joke. On November 9, 2010, Wazgul uploaded a Nightcore take that became one of the most liked entries in the series.
