It is used both to laugh at that exact scene and, more broadly, to mock any last-minute lateness, drawing on the shared memory of videos that resurface every exam season.
Where does the “Late for the ENEM” meme come from?
The phenomenon grew out of the Enem itself: candidates who arrive after the gates close and try to negotiate their way in, usually in vain. According to the Museu de Memes (UFF), memes featuring these latecomers began to appear on Twitter around 2013 and 2014, then spread across other networks as edits, reaction videos and parodies. The museum records circulation from 2013 to 2017. In the most recent years (2016 and 2017), waiting for the memes even became an in-person event, with people gathering at exam sites to watch the gates close.
