In May 2015 the Brazilian cosmetics brand O Boticário launched a Valentine's Day campaign showing different kinds of couples, including same-sex ones, exchanging gifts. The ad drew protests from conservative groups, and evangelical pastor Silas Malafaia publicly called for a boycott of the brand's products, labeling the campaign a “promotion of homosexuality.” In response, internet users created the Tumblr page “Aproveita e Boicota Também,” which sarcastically listed other companies that should, by the same reasoning, also be boycotted, such as Apple, whose CEO is openly gay, and Facebook, whose founder backs LGBT causes. The backlash backfired: O Boticário reported roughly a 3% sales increase during the period, partly credited to a Facebook support campaign that gathered 190,000 followers.
