What does the “I’ll Crush Xurimpe” meme mean?
The meme is about trash talk that backfires: someone promises to destroy the opponent and ends up losing right out of the gate. Ranger’s pronunciation, which turned “assassinar” (to assassinate) into “azazinar” and “Shrimp” into “Xurimpe”, made the mockery even funnier, and it gets reused every time a bold sports boast falls apart.
Where does the “I’ll Crush Xurimpe” meme come from?
Filipe “Ranger” Brombilla was playing League of Legends for KaBuM! e-Sports when he beat the Flamengo team of Lee “Shrimp” Byeong-hoon in the 2018 CBLoL split 2 finals. In a video filmed by Riot Games to announce the opening of the 2019 season, Ranger promised to “azazinar” Shrimp again, with a pronunciation the community quickly turned into “Xurimpe”. The problem was that KaBuM lost that exact season opener against the same Flamengo team, and the boast became an instant meme among CBLoL fans. By the end of 2019, Ranger left KaBuM! for Flamengo, taking the roster spot previously held by Shrimp.
