Where does the “Faustão: Outside and Inside” meme come from?
Two photos of host Fausto Silva, taken at different moments of his show Domingão do Faustão on the Rede Globo network, went viral on Twitter in September 2017. On the 29th of that month, the edit entered Twitter Brazil Moments, the feature that tracked the platform's most discussed topics. The format echoed an earlier one built around singer Chico Buarque looking “happy and sad”, and it quickly took on a life of its own, used to illustrate any contrast between appearance and real feeling. It spread widely enough to inspire versions with other celebrities, such as actress Susana Vieira and singer Joelma, from the group Banda Calypso.
