In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Snoop Dogg selfie memes” is a common card of the Memes World series 76, number 22547 of the collection, and the 44th best-known meme of its 298 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Snoop Dogg selfie memes” meme mean?
This meme describes a famous person openly trying to manufacture a viral moment. Instead of letting the internet seize on an image, the star hands it over and asks for it to be remixed. The mismatch is the joke, since real memes normally appear by surprise and cannot be ordered. People bring it up to describe content that tries too hard, a brand chasing trends, or a friend who posts a selfie begging for edits. The mood is teasing rather than cruel, and it is aimed at the awkward process more than at the rapper himself.
Where does the “Snoop Dogg selfie memes” meme come from?
It all began on Instagram. On November 1, 2014, American rapper Snoop Dogg posted a selfie in a bandana, captioned with a request that somebody make a meme out of it. He kept going with more selfies and edited images, often tagged with the question “meme?” and borrowing well-known viral pictures. On January 21, 2015, a compilation that originated on Imgur circulated on Tumblr, gaining nearly 480,000 likes and reblogs, and the next day Imgur user hashtagyoureit uploaded an album titled “Snoop Dogg Wants to Be a Meme.” Photoshopped parodies followed. On January 28 the blog The Berry, tied to The Chive, wrote about his efforts to force memes into existence, and on February 18 an Encyclopedia Dramatica thread declared his attempts a meme themselves. Know Your Meme added its entry in August 2015.
