What does the “Kameto's wide eyes” meme mean?
Kameto’s wide eyes convey astonishment without a word: the gaze opens up, and the scene is too good or too wild to comment on. People use the meme to respond to a shocking statement, a feat or an exaggerated announcement. It works as a silent answer to anything over the top, from a ticket price to a daring remark. The tone swings between surprise, amusement and mild dread, without heavy judgment.
Where does the “Kameto's wide eyes” meme come from?
Kameto is a French streamer, founder and president of the esports club Karmine Corp. In 2022, during one of his broadcasts, wearing a green headset, he looked at his screen and suddenly opened his eyes wide. His community spotted the instant, cut it into a clip and turned it into a GIF, notably under the labels “Kameto eyes” and “big eyes”. The reaction is easy to grasp without context: it follows the same mechanic as many reaction memes, where a face is the comment. It was later recycled in discussion threads far beyond the esports world.
