What does the “Doigby's tecktonik” meme mean?
The meme laughs with nostalgia: Doigby dances like in 2000s clubs, arms spinning, without caring how it looks. The charm comes from the contrast between a dance contest with real stakes and a dated style performed with total seriousness. People post it for a win, a party where everyone lets loose, or to say an idea or outfit smells of the past. It also celebrates self-mockery that is never mean.
Where does the “Doigby's tecktonik” meme come from?
In 2024, Michou staged Internet’s Dancing with the Stars, an online take on the TV show where content creators compete in choreographies. During the evenings, Doigby busted out tecktonik, an electro dance hugely popular in France in the 2000s, with his arms windmilling. Viewers spotted the moment, cut it into a GIF and carried it to TikTok under names like “Doigby danse meme”. Several green-screen edits circulated, dropping the move into all kinds of backdrops. The clip is mostly quoted for the gap between the outdated dance and the confidence of the person performing it.
