In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “« PITIÉ »” is a rare card of the Permanent Edition French Twitch Memes Season 1, number 36 of the collection, and the 78th best-known meme of its 78 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “« PITIÉ »” meme mean?
The word is a theatrical plea addressed to luck, opponents or the machine. It carries the desperate hope that things will turn around at the last second. People use it when everything goes wrong: a match starting badly, a never-ending queue, an anxiously awaited result. The exaggerated tone is what makes it funny, because the plea always comes too late to change anything, which is exactly why it is so recognisable.
Where does the “« PITIÉ »” meme come from?
The meme is tied to streamer Alderiate and his 2021 streams, where he begs the heavens when a game turns sour. The plea came back often enough to become a signature, and it appears in the title of a compilation: an episode of the “Best of Alderiate” series is called “BEST OF ALDERIATE #80 PITIÉ MESSIEURS”. Viewers repeat the word under clips and say it themselves whenever a situation slips out of their hands.
