In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “J'vais t'étrangler” is a common card of the Memes FR pack, number 1106 of the collection, and the 876th best-known meme of its 977 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “J'vais t'étrangler” meme mean?
The comedy sits entirely in the gap between the violence announced and the size of whoever announces it. People quote the line when they are furious and powerless: at a customer service queue, against a far better opponent, at a friend who just won by luck. The meme flags an anger you defuse yourself by stating it, which makes it usable anywhere, work included. It gets quoted more than it gets posted, and the detail about the tiny hands is usually kept, because that is what turns it into an admission of helplessness.
Where does the “J'vais t'étrangler” meme come from?
Confessions intimes is a French television programme following difficult family situations. In one of its reports, a four-year-old boy named Sévan, presented as a rebellious child, threatens to strangle his mother. The clip was uploaded to YouTube in February 2017 on the La Télé D’Enzo channel, under a title summing up the scene, and the full episode also remains available online. Searches on the phrase surface only two on-topic re-uploads, with very unequal audiences, so the meme spread through quotation and social platforms rather than through resharing the original video.
