What does the “Montpellier Paris à pied” meme mean?
The meme announces that you are picking the longest option as a matter of principle. People use it for a trip made on foot when a bus was coming, a sum redone by hand, a file retyped rather than copied: pride matters more than efficiency. It also carries the respect owed to pointless effort, since the pair did it for a fundraiser rather than to save time. In a group chat it answers anyone complaining about a ten-minute walk.
Where does the “Montpellier Paris à pied” meme come from?
ZEvent is a French charity streaming event that gathers creators around a fundraiser. For the 2025 edition, two of them, Nico and Byilhan, decided to reach the event on foot from Montpellier, 878 kilometres from Paris. The challenge was followed during the walk, then recounted on the show Quotidien, whose channel published the interview on YouTube on 20 October 2025 under the title “Nico et Byilhan : 878km à pied !”. The number is what stuck: people quote it rather than the stages, which is what made the trip a reference usable without context.
