What does the “Et le code de la route ?” meme mean?
The line does not accuse anyone of a mistake, it brings up an exam. Whoever asks it is not debating the manoeuvre, they are asking whether the other person still knows the rules they must have learned at some point. People use it behind the wheel, naturally, but mostly away from the road: at someone improvising a procedure, inventing a rule of play, settling a point of grammar by feel. The tone does the rest, polite and falsely curious, which makes the question far more annoying than a direct reproach.
Where does the “Et le code de la route ?” meme come from?
The shot comes from a short published on YouTube in September 2021 titled “Tu connais pas ton code de la route (Mouad Alba)”, on the La Twitterie channel. It shows the exchange from the car door, where the question is put to the other driver like an impromptu oral exam. The clip travelled mostly in vertical short form, where the line arrives fast enough to work on its own. Searches for the phrase turn up no notable re-upload whose title repeats it, which places the meme in spoken usage rather than in a chain of re-posts: people quote the line more than they reshare the video.
