In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Slurmcore” is a common card of the Memes World series 76, number 22588 of the collection, and the 88th best-known meme of its 298 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Slurmcore” meme mean?
Slurmcore turns a familiar track into an enthusiastic blur where syllables slide and overlap. The result is chaotic on purpose, somewhere between funny, hypnotic and slightly unsettling. It appeals to fans of strange internet audio, Tumblr nostalgia and production experiments. People mention it for any remix bent into absurdity, or when they dare someone to run a favorite song through the same treatment. The fun is hearing how little of the original melody survives.
Where does the “Slurmcore” meme come from?
It all starts on December 17, 2017. Tumblr user SoundDesignerJeans posts a modified version of The Proclaimers’ I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) paired with a GIF from the John Lennon meme. A commenter’s remark gives the audio its nickname, Mmmm Slurms. On May 15, 2018, user Renmin uploads it to YouTube. It stays niche until September 27, 2025, when user Dman reposts it as My Favorite Tumblr Audio of All Time: Mmmm Slurms. YouTube’s recommendations do the rest, pushing it to almost 75,000 views in a month. On October 1, 2025, S*tuff posts an Ableton remake explaining the likely technique, and on October 8 applies it to Weezer’s Buddy Holly. Know Your Meme notes that its entry is still under research.
