In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “Homerde” is an epic card of the Permanent Edition French Twitch Memes Season 1, number 52 of the collection, and the 68th best-known meme of its 78 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.
What does the “Homerde” meme mean?
The word sums up a deliberately flawed impression: Billy’s cracked voice only half resembles Homer’s, and that gap is the joke. The pun glues the character’s name to a coarse-sounding term to give it a caricature feel, without targeting anyone. People use it to label an approximate impression, to tease a friend putting on a silly voice, or to salute a group joke that caught on. The word draws its strength from the chat, which imposed it: it travels as a wink between regulars rather than as an insult.
Where does the “Homerde” meme come from?
It all starts with a September 2021 stream featuring AmineMaTue and RebeuDeter, better known as Billy. The two streamers are friends who already played, cooked and ran roleplay sessions together on Twitch; Amine is French-Algerian, and Billy began on the platform in 2018. Billy begins imitating Homer Simpson, the hero of the animated series The Simpsons, in a broken voice. Amine replies by pronouncing “Omerde”. The chat, however, keeps the written “Homerde”, which becomes the name of the scene. The extract was turned into a GIF, cracked voice included, and has circulated since among the two streamers’ fans.
