In MyMemeCards, the meme card game, “PTKFGS” is a rare card of the Memes World series 76, number 22527 of the collection, and the 20th best-known meme of its 298 cards. Here is what the meme means, where it comes from, and how to get its card.

What does the “PTKFGS” meme mean?

PTKFGS is an inside joke from the YTMND community. The acronym takes a movie quote, “Punch the keys for God’s sake!”, and treats it as the slogan of an imaginary site, as if internet history had gone another way. It stands for the “alternate universe” genre, where familiar content circulates under a different label. The meme only makes full sense if you know the original slogan, which makes it humor for insiders, though it was widespread on the platform at the time and imitated well beyond its first creators.

Where does the “PTKFGS” meme come from?

The meme started in March 2006 on YTMND. On March 4, user Aphex350 submitted a site based on a Finding Forrester scene containing the line “Punch the keys for God’s sake!”, the same scene that had inspired the original “You’re the man now dog” site. That same day, RySenkari created the first PTKFGS site, “What Could Have Been…”, parodying it by imagining that founder Max Goldberg had picked this other line. A spinoff, WWW.PTKFGS.COM, appeared on March 5. On March 8, Humphro’s “safety not guaranteed changes internet history!” was credited with boosting the fad and fixing the alternate-universe idea. YesYes.com, created March 15, started the broader trend of alternate YTMND universes.
